THE STAR INCOME VERIFICATION PROGRAM
IS NOW MANDATORY
Beginning with the 2019-20 school year, the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance will annually determine income eligibility for all potential Enhanced STAR recipients. STAR recipients who have already enrolled in the Income Verification Program (IVP) will not need to take any action for the 2019 assessment roll.
If you received Enhanced STAR in 2018 but were not enrolled in the IVP, you will be required to enroll in the IVP when you renew your exemption with the Assessor’s Office. Once you are enrolled in the IVP, your exemption will be verified and renewed automatically by the Tax Department.
Any Basic Star recipient who turns 65 years old before December 31, 2019 can apply for the Enhanced STAR at the Assessor’s office. At that time, you will be required to enroll into the IVP. You must apply before the March 1st, deadline. The Tax Department will use Income Tax data to determine eligibility for your STAR Exemption and will notify the Assessor.
